Abstract
Background:
@EN The aim of this study was to evaluate the apolipoprotcin changes in the cardiovascular complications (coronary heart disease, cerebrovascular accident and hypertension) and to assess its role for atherosclerosis progression in the
non-insulin-dependant diabetics.
@ES Methods:
@EN As the subjects of this study. 98 patients were selected among 327 non-insulin-dependant diabetics admitted to Dong-A University Hospital between March 1990 and October 1993. They were devided into two groups, one group (n=49) had
cardiovascular
complication (Cx (+)), and the other group (n=49) had no cardiovascular complication (Cx (-)). For the control, 35 normal healthy persons were studied.
Plasma lipid and apolipoprotein levels of all the subjects were measured.
@ES Results:
@EN 1) Total cholesterol and LDL-cholesterol levels were significantly increased in Ca (+) group but not in Cx(-) group compared with control, and they were significantly increased in Cx (+) group compared with Cx (-) group.
2) Triglyceride levels were significantly increased in both Cx (+) and Cx (-) groups compared with control, and they were significantly increased in Cx (+) group compared with Cx (-) group.
3) HDL-cholesterol levels were significantly decreased in both Cx (+) and Cx (-) groups compared with control, but there was no significant difference between Cx (+) and Cx (-) group.
4) Apolipoprotein AI levels were significantly decreased in both Cx (+) and Cx (-) groups compared with control, but there was no significant differences between Cx (+) and Cx (-) group.
Apolipoprotein AII levels did not reveal any significant differences among the three agroups.
5) Apolipoprotein B and Apolipoprotein E levels were significantly increased in Cx (+) group but not in Cx (-) group compared with control, and they were significantly increased in Cx (+) group compared with Cx (-) group.
6) Apolipoprotein CII levels were significantly increased in both Cx (+) and Cx (-) groups compared with control, but there was no significant difference between Cx (+) and Cx (-) group. Apolipoprotein CIII levels were significantly increased in
both
Cx (+) and Cx (-) groups, and they were significantly increased in Cx (+) group compared with Cx (-) group.
@ES Conclusion:
@EN These results suggest that the increased levels of Apolipoprotein B and E associated with the increased levels of total cholesterol and LDL-cholesteroi play a role as a risk factor for the development and progression of cardiovascular
complications
in the non-insulin-dependant diabetics.
